Woman, Infant, and Neonatal Database
The Woman, Infant, and Neonatal Database (WIND) is a web-based research protocol management system, developed by Dr. Ryan Blackwell, that is capable of integrating clinical and research data. This electronic medical record system and perinatal database organizes information on children and their mothers served at Hutzel Hospital . Consent given by the mothers allows contact by researchers at any point after a child’s birth, with a protocol approved by the Human Investigation Committee. As a comprehensive, accurate, and accessible source of information, this database allows researchers on the medical and main campuses to conduct collaborative investigations on a broad range of issues and facilitates projects benefiting from a longitudinal design.Dr. Michael Diamond and Dr. Sean Blackwell of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology have offered researchers on the main campus, as well as medical researchers outside of Ob/Gyn, generous access to WIND. Access to information in WIND can be obtained upon HIC approval for a particular research protocol. Role-based access allows researchers to obtain archival information relevant to the identification and location of target populations. Dr. Blackwell and his staff will work with any WSU researcher, who has IRB approval for a project, to develop an electronic protocol that can be entered directly into WIND for data organization, management, and export. The present staff are expected to be able to accommodate the demand for this service; however, if the demand overwhelms the resources available, outside funding for programming time may be needed. For further information and access to WIND, please contact Dr. Sean Blackwell at sblackwe@med.wayne.edu
